NORTEXCEL2020 Public session
Public session of NORTEXCEL2020 Project with the participation of European Commissioner Carlos Moedas
CCDR-N along with INOVA+, the Polytechnic of Porto and the Joanneum Research Institute of Austria, promoted on April 1st a public meeting to disseminate the NORTEXCEL2020 initiative, which aims to create in Norte a Centre of Excellence in the field of Medical Technologies. In this event it was possible to present a Green Paper on the implementation of this new innovation actor, highlighting the objectives and strategic research priorities.
NORTEXCEL2020 was one of the 31 European projects approved from a total of 169 applications submitted in the widespread-1-2014 call: Teaming, whose goal is to support the creation of research centers in low performing innovation regions, with the collaboration of leading scientific institutions in Europe.
The vision for the new centre of excellence is to create a world-leading centre in the Norte region of Portugal, contributing to the regional competitiveness of the research, innovation and business contexts through activities of excellence in applied research, technology development and innovation of an international dimension. NORTEXCEL2020 will develop research and innovation activities integrating core requirements and scenarios from the medical technology application domain, by exploring new results and research in the areas of health technologies, advanced materials and ICT.
The event had the participation of the European Commissioner Carlos Moedas, which considered extremely positive what has been achieved so far, and confirms that the project meets the all conditions to be successful in Phase 2 – which deadline is scheduled for end of June 2016.
